PKR and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is trying to avoid being in a awkward situation in Selangor – or rather, a situation even more awkward than he’s already in.
Following the PKR supreme council’s official endorsement of president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail for the post of Selangor Menteri Besar, Anwar – who is currently the state’s economic adviser – has pledged not to mix his home life with with the increasingly dramatic political life of the Selangor state government.
“I don’t think I will continue as economic advisor if Wan Azizah becomes mentri besar,” he said at a press conference today, as quoted by The Malay Mail Online.
Anwar also insisted that he would hold no official posts in the Selangor state government should Wan Azizah be appointed MB.
“There are far more capable people within the party,” he added.
Prodded on current Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim’s seeming refusal to step down despite losing his party confidence in his ability to run Selangor, Anwar said that talks between PKR top brass and Khalid are still ongoing.
“Do not be presumptuous… the process is ongoing, it is going well,” he said.
