Rajinikanth’s limo driver was “hijacked” into service

Malaysian fans of Tamil cinema were beside themselves with excitement when global megastar Rajinikanth touched down in KLIA on Monday, and most were probably delighted to have seen photos of the macho action hero get into a white Hello Kitty-themed limousine … but now it seems that the limo, and its driver, might have been made to drive Rajini under duress.

According to the 25-year old driver of the limo, Rajini’s Malaysian handlers forced him to go above and beyond the stipulated terms of their rental agreement in order to drive the Indian movie star from KLIA to Malacca.

The Petaling Jaya-based company from which Rajini’s local reps rented the limo told The Star Online‘s RSN Murali that the limo was rented for the actor’s use from 4pm to 6pm on Monday, and the car was scheduled to rush off to another booking later that day.

However, as Rajini’s arrival in KLIA was delayed and the actor only got out the gates at 6pm, his local handlers allegedly forced the driver to stay put, to the point of confiscating his handphone to ensure the limo would still be on hand for the trip to Malacca.

“We tried to contact our driver but his handphone went unanswered. We were desperate as the other event was at 6pm the same day,” a spokesperson from the limo company said.

The company only received any contact from the driver at 8.20pm, after Rajini had been delivered to Malacca.

“Our company is facing flak from the second client just because of the breach.”

The company lodged a police report at the Brickfields district police headquarters on Tuesday.
