16 rat, cockroach infested eateries in KL ordered to close

Party’s over, roaches and rodents.

Yesterday, authorities locked up 16 filthy premises selling food in the city — many of them found to have rat faeces and cockroaches taking up space in their kitchens.

Bernama reports that these eateries were ordered to close for two weeks, and its operators fined.

“The owner of the restaurant has clearly failed to meet the standard cleanliness requirements. Their negligence can cause detrimental health effects on the customers,” Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya Federal Territories Health Department director, Datuk Dr Narimah Nor Yahaya was quoted as saying.

“Our team also found a barrel of smuggled cigarettes hidden in the kitchen, believed to be sold under-the-counter to the customers,” Dr Narimah was quoted further.

There could be more such disgusting eating spots which we, as food loving Malaysians, may choose to ignore in favour of the delicious dishes they serve. But please, if you spot any, tell DBKL.

They have a system for you to make complaints on dirty eateries — the underused ‘e-adu’ system was launched in 2011. Tip off DBKL by sending a text message to 15888.
