IS planning more attacks in Malaysia: IGP

The Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has warned that the Islamic State (IS) are planning more attacks in Malaysia after the bombing of the Movida nightclub which injured eight people last week, The Star Online reports.

Khalid told the news portal that the bombing, the first ever by IS on Malaysian soil, was only step one of a series of attacks planned by the group.

“The two men who carried out the attack were also targeting senior leadership of the country, top police officers and senior members of the judiciary because they felt that these three groups were the main obstacles to their activities.

“They were receiving instructions directly from IS militant Muhamad Wanndy Mohamad Jedi from Syria,” he was quoted as saying.

According to Khalid, Movida was targeted by the militant group because it was considered an “unIslamic” establishment.

Khalid added that the police have since arrested 15 people, including two police officers, reportedly involved in the bombing. The police are  also reportedly on the hunt for two more suspects.
