Uhh, someone has lodged a police report against Pokemon Go

Seriously guys, it is just a game.

The Pertubuhan Martabat Julinan Muhibbah Malaysia (MJMM), led by the military-attired Abdul Rani Kulup Abdullah, has lodged a police report against the free-to-play Pokemon Go app, according to The Star Online.

Abdul Rani told the news portal that the augmented reality game, which has yet to release in Malaysia, would promote social ills among the youth and destroy the faith of Muslims.

Therefore, Abdul Rani said, the government should ban the developers from releasing the game in Malaysia.

“We firmly oppose this game as it is detrimental to children’s development as their minds would be filled with cartoons.

“In the end, everyone would become cartoons in Malaysia,” he was quoted as saying after lodging the police report at the Dang Wangi station on Wednesday.

Also present was Amir Amsaa Allapitchay, president of Ikatan Rakyat Insan Muslim Malaysia (Irim), who told The Star that Malaysia should emulate countries like Indonesia and Saudi Arabia in banning the game.

“Allowing the release of Pokemon Go in Malaysia would be truly unacceptable. We would like to suggest the Government to act against this before it destroys the country,” he was quoted as saying.

Amir added that both Irim and MJMM would submit a protest note to the Multimedia and Communications Ministry next week.

Earlier this week, Penang Mufti Wan Salim Wan Mohd Noor has urged the government to declare the game ‘haram’ with immediate effect as the ‘negatives’ of the game outweighed the ‘positives’.
