91 vehicle owners busted for using emergency lane

And they thought they could get away with it.

According to a news report by The Star Online, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) has issued notices to 91 vehicle owners after they were found to have used the emergency lane and blocked an ambulance rushing to the scene of an accident recently.

Upon receiving the notice, the car owners would have to appear before the JPJ for questioning, department deputy director-general (planning and operations) Datuk Yusoff Ayob said.

He also told The Star Online that the notices were issued after the department completed an investigation on a video recording at the 228km mark on the North-South Highway near Malacca last Sunday.

“All owners involved are given 14 days to come to the JPJ office under Section 114 of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he was quoted as saying.

“If they are not involved, they are required to make a police report for investigation purposes,” he said, adding that those involved could be slapped with a RM300 compound or charged in court and upon conviction, fined RM2,000.
