The Selangor Menteri Besar crisis came to a head this evening, as MB Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim moved to fire all PKR and DAP executive councillors in his state cabinet, effectively locking Pakatan Rakyat out of thee state they won in the 13th General Elections.
The three DAP exco members are Datuk Teng Chang Khim, V.Ganabatirau and Ean Yong Hian Wah, while the three PKR excos are Elizabeth Wong, Dr Daroyah Alwi and Rodziah Ismail.
Of the six Selangor Excos, five received their termination letters today, while the last, PKR’s Rodziah Ismail, is out of the country.
The remaining for Excos from PAS are Iskandar Abdul Samad, Dr Halimah Ali, Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi and Sallehen Mukhyi.
The firings leaves Khalid running the executive branch of the Selangor government with four PAS Excos. In its report, The Malaysian Insider is not yet certain whether the central PAS leadership was informed of the terminations, or the party’s official stand on the matter.
PAS has lagged behind its partners in the Pakatan Rakyat coalition in deciding its position on the Menteri Besar crisis, saying that its official decision on the matter would only be reached after an August 17 meeting of its top leaders.
The PKR and DAP national leadership will be holding an emergency meeting later tonight and are expected to have a statement of intent afterwards.
Following the firings, Khalid said the PKR and DAP Excos “have made several statements and signed a letter for a bloc to be made for the purpose of decreasing the effectiveness of the exco.”
“Therefore I have written to the Sultan to ask that these exco do not carry on their duties in the Selangor state government,” he said.
All PKR state assemblymen in Selangor had previously pledged to stand by their party’s endorsement of president Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail for the post of Selangor MB, while national DAP leaders had stated unequivocally that the party stands in line with PKR’s official line on the matter.
